Stuffed, oil on panel, 16x20", 2025. (The original painting is currently hanging and available here this month - https://www.cocaseattle.org/aind )
I saw this jar of chili stuffed olives on a shelf at DeLaurenti in Pike Place Market and inspiration struck. The contrasting colors, the way the olives were arranged, the way the liquid distorted the shapes, the way the light passed through, the bright red lid... I loved everything about it, and it seemed so big to me even though it's a small jar. I wanted others to see it the way I saw it at that moment because it made me happy. Here it is posed in the July sun on my deck in all its stuffed, salty, spicy glory. Olives are both a special childhood memory of my grandparents' house and something I still enjoy often. These were delicious.
