Little Blue House, oil on panel, 16x20", 2025. Acquired by the King County Public Art Collection in Washington State in 2026.
I found this glass bottle while browsing a vintage shop in Cle Elum, WA. Its color and shape immediately reminded me of the small blue, single-story house where I grew up in New England. The idea of “home” has always felt sentimental and complicated to me, especially now that none of my immediate family live there, or even in the same state.
I’ve moved more than a dozen times, and home has often been a temporary place rather than a fixed one. While I feel grounded in this beautiful state of WA with my husband now, my family is still on the east coast, and there is a sense of distance that lingers. This painting reflects that in-between feeling: belonging, space, absence, and connection all existing at the same time in a beautiful way.
